Yerba Mate recipes worth trying

Yerba Mate is a natural beverage produced from the leaves of the Ilex paraguariensis plant. Although traditionally it's consumed with its natural taste which is grassy, bitter, and strong, many consumers are combining it with different sweeteners, fruit, or herbs.

Regarding this we're suggesting you a few Yerba Mate combinations:

1. French Press Yerba Mate combined with ginger, mint & citrus

For the ingredients you will need: 

  • 5 tbsp Yerba Mate loose-leaf
  • ginger
  • mint
  • citrus

How to prepare it: 

First, add five tablespoons of loose-leaf Yerba Mate into the French Press. Then add (as desired) grated ginger, mint or citrus in order to give extra flavor to the Yerba Mate. Pour enough cold water into the press to infuse the loose-leaf Yerba. This will reduce the bitterness later. Next thing is to pour hot water approximately 180 degrees, and let sit for about five minutes, then press and add your favorite sweetener or infusion.

2. Iced Yerba Mate combined with fruit

For the ingredients you will need: 

  • 1/3 cup loose-leaf Yerba Mate
  • 8 cups hot water
  • 2 cups orange juice (we recommend using a fresh juice)
  • sliced fruit (as desired): orange, lemon, strawberries, etc.

How to prepare it: 

First, steep the loose-leaf Yerba Mate in a large container with warm water (8 cups) for approximately 5 minutes, and then place it into the refrigerator until it's cold. Then, pour 2 cups of orange juice into the brewed Yerba Mate, and add the desired fruit. In the end, don't forget to add a few ice cubes and enjoy it!
