First of all, we have to mention that the most important thing is to NEVER use boiling water!
Why is this so much important? It's because it will make you Yerba extremely bitter, it can crack your gourd (if you're using a Calabash or Wooden gourds), and last but not least, very hot water can cause you gastrointestinal health issues.
*IDEAL TEMPERATURE FOR THE WATER IS 65º-80ºC/ 150º-175º
- Another important thing is to never leave your already used Yerba infusion in the gourd, not even for an hour. This will only lead to molding and then you're going to hate your mate gourd cause it won't be able for use again.
You've clean your Yerba after drinking it and it starts growing mold? Don't throw your gourd! It's only a natural way of curing itself! The good thing is that the more it gets darker inside, the more seasoned your gourd is.
*MAKE SURE IT'S A MOLD WITH THIS EXTRA TIP: IT ALWAYS LOOKS HAIRY WITH WHITE SPOTS
Let's not forget to mention once again, cleaning your gourd properly is the key to use it longer! After each drinking from it, you'll have to get rid of every Yerba particles that have left inside, then fully rinse it with water and let it dry in sunny and dry conditions.
*VERY IMPORTANT TRICK FOR DRYING YOUR GOURD QUICKER IS TO PUT IT ON IT'S SIDE SO THE AIR CAN DRY IT NATURALLY
And here is the most unexpected mistake that many of you can make: NEVER REPLACE YOUR BOMBILLA ONCE YOU PUT IT IN YOUR GOURD! With moving it, you can only clog up the straw by ruining the filtration, and also can crush some leaves, so they'll end up in your mouth.
